Three Of My Favorite Clay Face Masks

Three Of My Favorite Clay Face Masks

I love clay face masks. I always look for one that has the least ingredients that I can't pronounce and that don't have synthetic color or perfume added, because that irritates my skin. A few months ago I started to make my own clay masks. I researched ingredients that will purify my skin and not dry it out. I have large pores and sun spots all over from living in Florida sun for almost 10 years. I'm ok with wrinkles and spots. I get it, it comes with age, but I do like my skin to just have a youthful glow about it. For my self. I like it. And pores the size of an atom. Sigh... I suffer with black heads and I want to destroy them. So that's my motivation for these masks.

I do have a tip and I'll write it right away before I list the mask ingredients. I used Aloe Vera in my masks. You have to refrigerate the container after you mix all the ingredients, but that way the mask doesn't last long. A week tops. But, you won't use an entire 4 ounce jar in a week. Going forward, mix the dry ingredients and the essential oils. When ready to apply the mask, just take a Tbs of the dry ingredients and a tsp of Aloe Vera, mix and apply. I'll still remind you to do this below. And I'll post a links to all the ingredients I used from Amazon below as well.

Rosemary Seaweed Clay Mask

  • 4 ounce jar with lid
  • 2-3 Tbs Seaweed Powder
  • 3 Tbs Green Clay
  • 1/2 Tsp Vitamin C powder
  • 10 drops Rosemary Essential oil
  • Filtered water - enough to make a smooth paste, or Aloe Vera. Remember, if using Aloe Vera or water you will have to refrigerate this. There are no preservatives, so it will only last about a week, up to three weeks. Then, it will develop a mold on top. I would not add the wet ingredients till ready to use.
  • If your leaving it dry - when ready to apply- take 1 Tbs dry ingredients and 1/2 Tbs water or Aloe, mix to a thin paste and apply to the face and neck, leave on for 10-20 min or until dry and rinse off. follow with an face oil or serum or a moisturizer.

About the ingredients:

Seaweed is one of the richest sources of natural minerals, has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory qualities, hydrates and detoxifies the skin, and contains amino acids which help firm skin tissue. This mask doesn't smell very pretty, but it's my favorite of the three. My face loves this.

French green clay, is a type of mineral clay valued for its highly absorbent properties. It’s a bio-mineral, composed of both decomposed plant material and trace minerals such as calcium, aluminum, magnesium, silica, phosphorous, copper and zinc.

Vitamin C powder - Aside from giving you fairer and brighter skin, Vitamin C has other key benefits, such as: Vitamin C is essential for collagen synthesis. Collagen is a vital part of the skin that gives it elasticity and makes it look young and firm. Vitamin C tells the body to produce more collagen. (I make a night serum with Vitamin C that is amazing. I'll blog it with the next batch I make)

Rosemary Essential oil - Rosemary has proven medicinal properties on skin as it has been used in managing skin conditions such as dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema. Its anti inflammatory properties are very helpful in healing burns by reducing swelling and puffiness. By its regeneration properties, rosemary essential oil rehydrates and tones skin helping remove wrinkles and making skin taut and healthy. It replaces damaged tissue thus reducing the appearance of scars and blemishes. With its disinfectant and antiseptic properties, rosemary has been used to treat acne and oily skin conditions. It lightens dark spots and blemishes on the skin. Massage your face with rosemary oil if you are looking to improve on your skin complexion. Rosemary has an anti aging property as it is rich in anti oxidants. It tightens loose skin making it firmer and elastic. It also increases cell growth to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

  • important - Aloe Vera or Filtered water to use when ready to apply the mask. Do not out the Aloe Vera or water in the dry ingredients. Keep the powder separate to have this last longer.
  • Mix all dry ingredients, put in a jar. When ready to make a mask, take 2 Tbs of dry ingredients and mixt with 1 Tbs Aloe Vera or water.

I make a hair mask using Rosehip oil, I'll blog it when I make my next batch.

Geranium Essential oil ( there’s so much!) soothing properties that will calm down skin inflammation, relax your face muscles and promote blood circulation.
